I had my first Z when I was 16, and I had no access to tools nor did I have any mechanic friends. I managed to maintain the car just fine, using this site to do whatever work the car needed, and buying the necessary tools along the way. In my opinion, an NA is typically a reliable DD, as long as it's maintained correctly. Know that you're getting into a field where you can't change the header in half an hour, you can't pull the motor and drop in another in a few hours, etc. like you could on a civic or the like. I think you'll be pleased if you follow Bernie's suggestions about looking over the car thoroughly before dropping cash on it. Then, if you do have any issues with the car down the road, get on this site, search your butt off and you should be able to do most of the maintenance on it yourself if you are somewhat mechanical, or use your mechanical friends to help you out. Good luck!
